According to the Chinese collection of official histories, a new reign of a dynasty decrees its new laws and regulations, including official attire for the nobility and bureaucrats. The costume regulation includes headwear, clothes, and accessories and uses distinctive materials, colours, motifs, shapes, etc., to distinguish the wearer’s position and rank. This costume system developed for thousands of years and became a dress code in Chinese culture. This lecture introduces the costume regulations during the Ming and Qing dynasties to unveil the ancient Chinese dress code to the modern public.

“Kits and Consumables” Largesse Competition
We will be holding a Largesse Competition at TUA and want YOU to participate! For this competition, you only need 3 items in order to enter. That’s right, just 3!
Our theme for the competition is “Kits and Consumables” – so brainstorm types of starter kits/survival kits (ie 3 Armour Repair Kits, Event Steward Essentials Bags, Beginner’s Scribal Kits, Newcomer’s Feast Sets, etc.) or consumables (ie 3 packs of homemade candles, 3 bottles of something tasty you brewed, 3 jars of herbal remedy for aches and bruises, 3 bags of shelf-stable campfire soup mixes, etc.).
EVERYONE who enters gets a prize. That’s right! We’ll be ranking ALL entrants in the competition. The first place winner will get their choice of one entry. The remaining two pieces from that entry will be split between the graciously hosting Barony and our glorious Kingdom. Then the second place winner chooses their prize, and the other two will be split up, and so on until everything has been claimed.
Please remember to label your pieces with what it is/what’s included, ingredients and allergen alerts when applicable, and be sure to sign with your name and location. Our Royals and our Populace travel far and wide, and the generosity of our Kingdom is spread throughout the Knowne World!
“Sicillia, that sounds really great. I want lots of chances to win cool stuff. Can I enter more than once?” Absolutely, you may! There are no limits on how many times an individual may enter. However, the focus is quality of items donated, not quantity. We want you to have time to work on your gifts and really bring your best! Therefore, all of your entries will be ranked individually. (If you choose to hurriedly make 48 homemade candles and split them up into 16 “entries” of 3 candles each, then you do you, boo… But your 3 individual candles may stand during the judging against someone else’s full Newcomer’s Kits of candles, napkins, spices, and cutlery, and 1 individual candle will be up for grabs 16 times during the prize selection.)
“Sicillia, I love making largesse and I want cool stuff, but I can’t make it to TUA. How can I be involved?” Thank you for your enthusiasm and generosity. You are more than welcome to send your entries along with an authorized representative, someone you trust to deliver your items, and also to be present and responsible for the selection of your prize on your behalf. Your presence will be missed, but you are not excluded from participation due to proximity.
Should you have any questions, require any clarification, or need help with brainstorming, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, or to HL Lucinda the Valiant, Largesse Coordinator for Their Majesties.
Yours In Service,
Sicillia Beaumont, Borealis Chamberlain and Largesse Coordinator
